Science Interactive Notebook

YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS IN SCIENCE

What is an Interactive Notebook?  An interactive notebook (INB) is your own personalized DIARY of learning about science. A portfolio of your work in ONE convenient spot.  This is great for studying for upcoming quizzes & tests. A great ORGANIZATIONAL tool that gives you permission to be PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes. Allows you to be like a REAL SCIENTIST!  Real scientists use notebooks!

Biology: DNA Model Project

2019-2020

The objective for this project was for students to construct the components of the DNA structure.  A nucleotide is the basic building block of nucleic acids.  RNA and DNA are polymers made of long chains of nucleotides.  A nucleotide consists of a sugar molecule attached to a phosphate group and a nitrogen-containing base.  The 4 nitrogenous bases are adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. In RNA, the base uracil takes the place of thymine.

Homeroom Representing NOVA University

2014-2015

This was an Interdisciplinary and cross-curricular activity where all homerooms participated.  The teachers picked a university out of a hat to represent.  Ours was NOVA Southeastern University.  We represented NOVA by learning more about their mascot, departments, tuition, scholarships, etc.  The students gained insight about universities they may consider in the future.

Biology: Building "Tasty" Macromolecules

2013-2014      2014-2015

The objective for this Lab was for students to construct the basic components of organic molecular structure.  Biological macromolecules are defined as large molecules made up of smaller organic molecules. There are four classes of macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.  In this Lab students constructed a Carboydrate.

Biology: Sheep Brain Dissection

2014-2015

"The sheep brain and human brain are very similar in overall structure, as are all mammalian brains. Each contains a cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem. The sheep brain is smaller, weighing around 140 grams, or about one-tenth of the weight of an adult human brain, though it is still large enough to be easily dissected. The cerebrum is more elongated in sheep than in humans, and the cerebellum and brain stem are located behind the cerebrum, instead of being tucked below it. This is because sheep, being four-legged animals, have a horizontal spine, while humans stand upright with their spines vertical."~ehow.com

Biology: Frog Dissection

2012-2013

Reasons For Frog Dissection "The main reason to continue frog dissection in many classrooms is that the anatomy of a frog has a similar orientation to the human body. When teachers expose students to the anatomy of a frog, students can become more familiar with the inner workings of their bodies as well. Frog dissection is often one of the first experiments a student is exposed to in a lab. It's safe and can be performed with little or no knowledge of scientific procedures and methods."
